Awesome Receipts is a browser-based receipt scanner. You photograph a receipt, AI extracts 7 fields from it, and you export the result to CSV, XLSX, PDF, Google Sheets. It's free for your first 50 receipts and $3/month or $19.99/year after that.

What is an AI receipt scanner?
An AI receipt scanner reads a photo of a receipt and turns it into structured data — merchant, date, subtotal, tax, tips, and total — without anyone typing it in. Awesome Receipts does this in your browser and writes the result straight to CSV, XLSX, PDF, or a Google Sheet.
Is Awesome Receipts really free?
Yes. The free plan includes 50 receipt scans with full AI OCR extraction and CSV export. No credit card required. Upgrade to Pro ($3/mo or $19.99/yr) for unlimited scans and every export format.
Do I need to download an app?
No. Awesome Receipts works in any web browser – Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or Edge. Use desktop mode to organize and analyze receipts on a bigger screen, or add it to your home screen on mobile.
What data does the AI extract from receipts?
The AI reads your receipt and extracts the merchant name, date, subtotal, tax amount, tips, and total, and assigns one of 9 expense categories automatically. Currency comes from your account default and can be changed per receipt.
What export formats are supported?
Free users can export to CSV. Pro adds PDF (per receipt and batch), XLSX spreadsheets, and direct sync to Google Sheets.
Is my data secure?
Images are stored in encrypted Cloudflare R2 storage with time-limited access URLs. We're compliant with PIPEDA (Canada), GDPR (EU), and CCPA (California), and you can delete your account and all data at any time.
Do the 50 free scans reset?
No. The 50 free scans are a one-time allowance, not a monthly limit. Once you've used them, upgrade to Pro for unlimited scans at $3/mo or $19.99/yr.
What happens if I hit the free scan limit?
You can still view and export your existing receipts. New scans require upgrading to Pro ($3/mo or $19.99/yr) for unlimited scans.
Can I switch plans later?
Yes. You can upgrade from Free to Pro at any time. Downgrading is also possible – you'll keep access until your current billing period ends.
Is there a discount for paying annually?
Yes. Pro is $3/mo billed monthly, or $19.99/yr — roughly two months free.
How is this cheaper than Dext or Expensify?
Awesome Receipts does one thing: scan, extract, and export receipts. No approval workflows, travel booking, or corporate card management. That keeps Pro at $3/mo against Dext's $25/mo.
What is an expense tracker?
An expense tracker is a tool that records what you spent, when, where, and on what category, so the total is available without adding up receipts by hand. Awesome Receipts builds that record from photos of your receipts rather than from manual entry or a bank feed.
Is there a free expense tracker?
Yes. Awesome Receipts is free for your first 50 receipts, with full AI extraction, automatic categorization, and CSV export. No credit card, no trial clock. Pro is $3/mo or $19.99/yr for unlimited scans.
Does it connect to my bank account?
No, and that's deliberate. Awesome Receipts works from receipts, so it captures what you actually bought — line items, tax, tips, and category — rather than just a merchant name and an amount on a statement. It also means we never ask for banking credentials.
How do I export receipts to CSV?
Open the receipts list, set any date range or filter you want, and choose Export. The CSV downloads with one row per receipt and one column per extracted field. CSV export is included on the free plan.
What columns are in the export?
10 columns: Date, Place, Category, Job/Project, Subtotal, Tax, Tips, Total, Currency, Notes.
Can I export to Excel instead?
Yes. Pro exports XLSX directly, which preserves number and date formatting better than CSV when you open it in Excel or Numbers.
Where are my receipt images stored?
In Cloudflare R2 object storage, encrypted at rest. The app never exposes a permanent public URL for an image; access goes through time-limited signed links.
Can I delete my data?
Yes, entirely and yourself. Settings has an account deletion that removes your account along with every receipt and image attached to it. You don't have to email anyone to ask.
Do you have access to my receipts?
Receipt images are sent to a third-party AI vision model for extraction, and stored in our object storage. They are not sold, and they are not used to train models.
Is Awesome Receipts a full Dext replacement?
For receipt scanning and expense export – yes. Awesome Receipts extracts the same fields (vendor, date, amounts, tax) with AI OCR and exports to CSV, XLSX, PDF, and Google Sheets. Dext also offers direct accounting software integrations (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage) which Awesome Receipts doesn't have yet.
Why is Awesome Receipts so much cheaper?
We focus on one thing: receipt scanning and export. No approval workflows, multi-entity support, or accounting integrations. That keeps the product simple and the cost low – $3/mo for unlimited scans against Dext's $25/mo.
