For Freelancers

Receipt Scanner
Built for Freelancers

Deductible expenses, captured at the till instead of reconstructed in April. $3/mo, priced for one person.

50 receipts free · No install · No onboarding call

A receipt scanner for freelancers has one job: make logging a deductible expense faster than throwing the receipt in a drawer. Snap it, and AI extracts merchant, date, tax, and total automatically. At tax time you export the whole year as a spreadsheet instead of flattening a pile of thermal paper on the kitchen table.

April is the wrong time to find out

The expenses freelancers lose aren't the big ones. They're the $4 coffee with a client, the parking, the cable from the hardware store — individually too small to bother recording, and collectively a meaningful deduction that quietly evaporates.

They evaporate because recording them costs more effort than they seem to be worth in the moment. The fix isn't more discipline; it's making the recording cost close to zero. Photograph the receipt before you leave. That's the whole workflow.

Sized for one person

No approval workflows

You are not going to approve your own expense report. Tools built for finance departments make you click through that anyway.

$3/mo, not $25/mo

Dext starts at $25/mo because it's built for accounting firms. Checked July 2026.

Nothing to install

Opens in the browser on whatever phone you have. Add it to your home screen if you want an icon.

Per-client tagging

Job and project codes on Pro, so you can pull expenses for one client without sorting the rest.

Your accountant gets a clean file

CSV or XLSX with every field as its own column, plus PDFs with the original image if they want backup.

Free tier that isn't a countdown

50 scans, one-time rather than monthly. No trial expiring in 14 days.

One export, whole year

Filter to the tax year, export, and send the file. Every row carries Date, Place, Category, Job/Project, Subtotal, Tax, Tips, Total, Currency, Notes, so whoever files your return can categorize and total without going back to you with questions about a blurry receipt.

Awesome Receipts is a record-keeping tool, not tax advice, and it doesn't decide what is deductible in your jurisdiction — that's between you and whoever files your return. What it does is make sure the record exists when you need it.

Freelancer FAQ

What is the best receipt scanner for freelancers?

The right one is whichever you'll actually open at the till. Awesome Receipts is built for that: no install, no onboarding, 50 free scans, and $3/mo after — priced for one person rather than for an accounting firm.

Do I need this if I only have a few receipts a month?

Probably not a paid plan. The free 50 scans are a one-time allowance rather than a monthly reset, so light users often never pay at all.

Will my accountant accept the export?

Yes. CSV and XLSX exports carry merchant, date, subtotal, tax, tips, total, currency, and category as separate columns, which is what bookkeeping software expects on import. Pro also exports the original receipt image as a PDF.

Can I separate business from personal spending?

Use job/project codes on Pro to tag receipts, then filter or export by code. Many solo users keep one code per client.

What happens to my data if I stop paying?

Your receipts stay accessible and exportable. You keep the ability to view and export what you already scanned; new scans need an active Pro plan once the free allowance is used.
